• The Goal of bySurfTV

I've already covered this in a progressbar episode on the platform, but I want to write a public blog post for everyone to see and hopefully get some understanding as to why I'm investing all this time & resource into bySurfTV.

The Issue I've always had and still have with YouTube is it's unpredictability.

Today you could be at 2,000,000 views, and tomorrow your Channel would just get deleted out of nowhere.

And although YouTube says that "human manual reviews" are not done with AI, sometimes I question that.

And beside the huge worry of losing such an amazing audience, YouTube's Revenue is also not that stable, as views are the driving factor for that. And as a small "business" trying to make great content, you need to make some material sacrifices for that to happen.

This is why I spent multiple months last year to completly re-design and re-launch bySurfTV.

With this platform, we can host content that we think is great, aswell as hopefully licensing creators in the future to tell their own stories, which the audience might find interesting, and might even check out the creator's YouTube page afterwards.

Of course I could have just doubled down on my Patreon and turned that into bySurfTV, but there's something really cool about having your own branded members platform where you're in control of almost the whole thing.

With that being said, my ultimate goal for bySurfTV is to have a 2nd creative outlet to test out different ways of telling a story, to have other creators not worry about censorship and to tell their stories, and to have another revenue model that pumps a portion of its output into bySurf on YouTube, because the main goal will always be free documentaries, but it is nice to be able to pour that same effort and creativity into members content and make cooler stuff without having to worry about holding the viewers retention.

Expect to see various forms of content over there, ranging from ad-free early-access to bySurf public videos, all the way to cinematic, philosophical and deep-diving Original documentaries.
